- Introduction (5 minutes): Introduce the concept of idioms to the children and give a couple of examples.
- Activity (25 minutes): Hand out a list of English idioms to the children (e.g., «it’s raining cats and dogs,» «a piece of cake»). Ask each child or pair to choose one idiom, draw a literal representation of it, and then write its actual meaning.
- Gallery Walk (8 minutes): Put the drawings on the wall, and have children walk around, looking at each piece of «art» and guessing the idioms.
- Conclusion (2 minutes): Reflect on the fun and sometimes nonsensical nature of idiomatic expressions in languages.
